International creative laboratory «Young critics – future of the theatre» is made as a creative space for practice of young theatre critics from Russia and Europe. More than 40 young theatre critics from Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Finland have been participated in it since its inception in 2007. The laboratory takes a record number of theatre critics from different regions of Russia, Estonia and Latvia in 2017. We hope our young theatre specialists will get an important experience in communication and work in festival’s community with theatres, audience and guests of different theatre forums presenting an outdoor performance stage of Kingfestival for the international creative laboratory «Young critics – future of the theatre» activity. This is an opportunity to document life and development tendencies of a modern theatre tissues from various of cultures on a scale of one festival. The laboratory is a close co-operation with people and ideas, with theatre’s reality and a dream about it. It is an opportunity to create texts, to interview theatre people, to answer the questions about plays in public as well as to study from theatre masters to be mobile in perception and analysis, laconic and capacious in speaking.

The creative laboratory is a living process of modern theatre’s exploration where discussion themes are born by plays and a dialogue form by cooperative creation of young authors, critics and participant-theatre. The result of the laboratory will be a young critic’s prize of  “Other View” award.

The festival gives an opportunity for young critics of the laboratory to:

— write play reviews posting them in Facebook public, acceptable for all participants

— make video interviews with theatre people after watched plays (interviews will be post in YouTube)

— take part in a «Short/Shock talk» format answering the questions about festival’s plays in public.

— take part in laboratory’s professionals’ master class Elena Gorfunkel (theatre critic, professor of Russian State Institute of Performing Arts candidate of History of Arts) and Edite Tishezere (theatre critic, editor of «Teatra Vestnesis” the hugest theatre magazines in Latvia).

— give the Young Critics Prize “The Other View” award forming a laboratory’s common decision.
