The genre definition of Alexander Yanushkevich’s performance is a comedy. It was a comedy that Chekhov himself considered the play “The Cherry Orchard” . In this performance, Chekhov’s textbook heroes are elevated to the absolute and become living puppets. There are no ladies in luxurious white dresses, no cherry blossoms. In the «Orchad» no one hears anyone, each character sings about his own, like a capercaillie. Everything plays in the puppet theater: objects, objects, shadows, masks. The most important know-how of this performance is the soft moving masks of the characters, created by the artist Tatiana Nersisyan. These masks become a «second skin» and, together with the costume, set the character’s character.
