PROJECT «LYCEUM»
Special program of the festival
The 15th International theatre Kingfestival presents a series of lectures that will surely be interesting to both young theatre critics and all participants and spectators of the festival. Despite the variety of lecture topics, the authors in one way or another, return to the main theme — the development of contemporary theater, its connection with tradition, innovation and, of course, the expectations of the audience. We hope that the theater, created by the word and experience of each lecturer, will expand the boundaries of not only knowledge, but creative impulses for future works as well. And after all, it’s just so peculiar — to know, to empathize and to engage in a dialogue on the given topics together.
Lectures are accompanied by video.
Lecture «Rainis is in the era of post-drama theater»
Lecturer: theatre critic, Edite Tisheizere, editor-in-chief of Latvian theatre magazine Teatra Vestnesis (Latvia)
At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the poetry and the dramaturgy of Latvian literature became interesting again: the theory and the practice of the post-drama theater allowed to take a different look at the plays of Rainis and discover how easily they are amenable to destruction, how gracefully they are reproduced again and in this process they acquire a modern, unforeseen (or foreseen?) author’s meaning. The special literary style of Rainis, which arose from romanticism and symbolism, allows you to play freely, change, and put together the parts of his ideas. And it is actively used by the generation of post-drama theater directors, starting with the Swede Lars Rudolfsson and ending with Cyril Serebrennikov, including the young directors in Latvia!
