International Theatre Kingfestival supports the contemporary theatre productions, paying a special attention to the myth as the unique genre of the world theatre, researching transformation of mythology in different ways: national epos, fantastic stories, fantasies, fairy-tales. Since 1992 Festival program presents shows for two directions – children and youths and separately – for adults, reveals new opportunities of the fantastic stories handling in drama and contemporary dance, puppet theatre, non-verbal and visual theatre. The Festival is eager to broaden the genre borders, introducing the repertory of plays from Bible myths to Scandinavian epos, from modern urban myths to Shakespeare’s plays and contemporary drama and dance. Festival includes special events as readings of contemporary plays for youth, actor’s workshops, exhibition and international laboratory “Young critics – The future of the theatre” for students-graduates from theatre faculty of Russia and Europe.
Kingfestival is biennale event in Velikiy Novgorod (Russia); its visitors became more 120 theatres from Russia and abroad (Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Denmark, Hungary, Spain, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, Poland, Germany, France, ets). Last festival (April 2011) presented more 20 shows in 5 days, included special events as readings of contemporary plays for youth “Swiss Reading”, “Theatre in classroom”, “Danish Focus”, actors workshops and international laboratory “Young critics – The future of the theatre” for students-graduates from theatre faculty of Russia and Europe.
International Theatre Kingfestival presents an exquisite festival program featuring performers from abroad and Russia on several stages of Velikiy Novgorod. The main aim of the festival is, to share the best performances with Russian public, to provide new way of artistic collaboration and creates a space for new production in myth, fairy tale and fantastic theme in modern theatre for children and adult. Kingfestival became a start-up platform for touring of many performances, because participating selectors of other European and Russian festivals as guests of festival.
Selection to Festival program will be complete December 1, 2012. Festival starts 25-29 April 2013.
